“Run, run, run, it’s getting late. Did you put your lunch box in your backpack, did you put your homework in your folder, and don’t forget to give your homework. Look at your hair; will you ever comb your hair before going to school! Oh, come on, your breakfast is still not finished. It looks like you will be tardy again”…
And it goes on and on, every morning, every day, every mom knows what I am talking about. So stop! Break! Breathe! Take a chill pill!
I know, we all know, each moment that goes by doesn’t come back. Life is not only about milestones but experiences. Experience the morning with a relaxed mind and open, welcoming arms. Instead of saying “Yet another day,” when you wake up, say “Thanks for one more day.” Don’t rush! Stay grounded! Enjoy your morning with your kids and family, as it sets the direction for the whole day.
We should all learn from our kids, especially us moms. They live by the moment, and they don’t care if they are 5 min late and don’t care if they forgot to comb their hair. But they care when you wake them up and give them a good morning kiss. They care when you listen to them and answer their same silly question, “Guess What? Chicken butt,” over and over again. We moms get sucked into all our daily chores and duties that we forget that we have a life. We don’t have to be perfect; It’s ok to be a little wild and disorganized. It’s ok to take a seat and have our breakfast with the kids in our sweet little time. It’s ok to have fun!
Taking care of yourself is as essential as you take care of your kids. The kids like it when you do something for yourself; they like it when you are happy and like it when you have fun. They appreciate what you do for them more when they understand you as a person. They get more responsible when they know you are vulnerable too. They make fewer mistakes when they know it’s ok to make mistakes and learn from them.
It is easy to say than to do. But let’s all take a moment and ask ourselves a question: Are we leading a lifestyle by our design?
